Investments in public transport in Upper Austria are paying off: with 47.2 million passengers on regional public transport (regional buses, regional and local trains) in 2024, the previous year's passenger record was once again significantly exceeded with an increase of 5.7 per cent. The main reason for this is the continuous expansion of public transport services in Upper Austria. In the last five years, the regional transport offer has been expanded by around 7 million additional timetable kilometres per year.
In addition to the consistent expansion of services, smart distribution systems and investments in infrastructure, it is also the attractive fare products such as the KlimaTicket OÖ and the Freizeit-Ticket OÖ that make the public transport package in Upper Austria so attractive for passengers. The Freizeit-Ticket OÖ in particular developed very positively in the 2024 Capital of Culture year. More than 43,000 Freizeit-Tickets OÖ were sold in 2024 - an outstanding increase of +395% compared to the previous year. The number of KlimaTicket OÖ holders also increased: Their number rose by 15% to around 41,000, in addition to more than 58,000 Upper Austrians who are in possession of an active KlimaTicket Österreich. They and all other passengers benefit from the continuous expansion of services in Upper Austria.
