Adjustment of the OÖVV fares as of 01.01.2025
As at the beginning of every year, the Upper Austrian Transport Association will also be adjusting its fares on 1 January 2025. Local and regional public transport is not profit-orientated. The costs of public transport services can only be covered to a small extent by the proceeds from ticket sales. The main burden of financing is borne by the regional authorities (federal, state and local authorities). Fare adjustments are therefore not made in order to generate profits, but to secure the financing of the service. This takes into account the increased costs of the transport companies involved.
The OÖVV fares are valid on all means of public transport in Upper Austria. Passengers can use all means of public transport within the corresponding area of validity of the selected ticket - regardless of which transport company operates them.
Zone-based or route-based annual tickets and semester tickets will no longer be offered from 2025 due to the extremely low demand.
First fare adjustment for the KlimaTicket OÖ (from 1 January 2025)
Since the introduction of the KlimaTicket OÖ in October 2021, the timetable offer in Upper Austria has been expanded by around 4.8 million additional timetable kilometres per year in regional bus transport and by 700,000 additional timetable kilometres per year on regional and local railways. Almost 40,500 customers appreciate the very good timetable offer in Upper Austria and use the KlimaTicket OÖ every day for their journeys to work, to educational institutions or in their free time.
The regional KlimaTicket OÖ was introduced in Upper Austria on 26 October 2021 and the price has remained unchanged since then. The core zone surcharges for the use of urban transport in Linz, Wels and Steyr were even reduced on 1 March 2023.
The price for all KlimaTicket OÖ variants will now be adjusted for the first time in 2025. The extent of the adjustment in Upper Austria is based on that of the KlimaTicket OÖ. This price adjustment was enshrined in law when the KlimaTicket Ö was introduced, analogous to the regulation for the vignette, and will be implemented annually from 2025. The basis is the respective change in the consumer price index of Statistics Austria. The adjustment will be 7.7 per cent in 2025. Customers who purchase a KlimaTicket OÖ before 1 January 2025 (valid from 1 December 2024) will still receive it at the old price. The monthly instalments for existing customers with an active KlimaTicket OÖ will remain the same until it expires.

General fare adjustments at a glance
Regional transport:
The OÖVV is increasing its ticket prices for regional transport, i.e. for regional buses, small city transport (excluding Linz, Wels and Steyr) and regional and local trains by an average of around 6 (exactly 6.23) per cent in line with inflation in recent years. This fare increase is the result of a cumulative indexation, 65 per cent of which is made up of the collective wage index for bus companies and 35 per cent of which is made up of the general consumer price index (CPI). Inflation is analysed over a longer period of time and included in the recalculation of tariffs. This is important so that the increased costs can be covered by the transport companies and serves to ensure the reliable operation of public transport.
The smallest currency unit used in OÖVV, 10 cents, can result in higher or lower percentage values in some cases, especially for low ticket prices.
Core zone surcharges:
When travelling from a regional zone to one of the three cities of Linz, Wels or Steyr, passengers can extend the validity of their ticket to include use of the desired core zone. In this case, there is a corresponding surcharge when calculating the fare. The core zone surcharge remains the same in Linz, Wels and Steyr for single tickets for children and people with disabilities. For single tickets at full fare and reduced fare, there will be an increase of 20 and 10 cents respectively. For day tickets, there will be a corresponding increase of 40 and 20 cents. For season tickets, i.e. weekly and monthly tickets, there will be an average price increase of around 6.17 per cent for additional use of the Linz, Wels and Steyr core zones.
Core zone fares:
The core zone fares, i.e. the prices for tickets within a core zone, will increase by an average of 6.26 per cent for weekly and monthly tickets in Linz from 01 January 2025. The prices for single tickets and day passes will rise by an average of 7.14 per cent in Linz. In Wels they will rise by 8.1 per cent and in Steyr by 7.61 per cent. The prices for weekly and monthly tickets will increase by an average of 6.26 per cent in all three cities. The price of city annual network tickets for Linz and Wels will increase by 7.7 per cent. The price of the municipal annual network ticket in Wels remains unchanged.
