The Upper Austrian Transport Association is once again taking part in European Mobility Week this year, from 16 to 22 September 2026. This year’s theme is ‘Mobility for all generations’, aiming to promote equitable mobility for all generations. The week will be accompanied by a range of activities across Upper Austria, providing information on alternative, environmentally friendly ways of getting about and encouraging people to give them a go. As a long-standing partner of the European initiative, the Upper Austrian Transport Association, together with its partner municipalities, is once again offering free travel on all urban and city buses (excluding Linz, Steyr and Wels) throughout the week. In addition, Schiene OÖ and the Upper Austrian Transport Association will be providing information about Upper Austria’s largest infrastructure project – the Linz Regional Light Rail – as part of the City of Linz’s Mobility Festival.
European Mobility Week is the world’s largest campaign to promote active and sustainable mobility – around 3,000 municipalities and cities across Europe take part every year. This year’s theme, ‘Mobility for All Generations’, focuses in particular on mobility poverty. This refers to people who, due to a lack of financial resources or poor transport links, are unable to manage their daily journeys effectively and are therefore unable to meet important needs. Those most affected are children, young people and the elderly.
OÖVV free travel during Mobility Week
Highlighting public transport as an affordable and reliable form of mobility for all generations, and inspiring even more people to use it, is also at the heart of the ‘Free travel on all OÖVV town and city buses’ campaign. In this way, the Upper Austrian Transport Association (OÖVV) aims to offer everyone who otherwise rarely uses public transport – or not at all – the opportunity to hop on easily and try out the service. The campaign is being run in cooperation with the towns and municipalities of Braunau, Vöcklabruck, Attnang-Puchheim, Redlham, Regau, Traun, Bad Ischl, Gmunden, Ried im Innkreis and Thalheim bei Wels.

By offering free OÖVV travel in numerous towns and municipalities, we are creating a low-threshold incentive to try out bus services in a straightforward way and to make environmentally friendly mobility a more integral part of everyday life. Particularly in view of limited mobility, it is crucial that mobility is not a question of age, place of residence or financial means.”

Information on the Linz Regional Light Rail at the City of Linz Mobility Festival
As part of European Mobility Week, theCity of Linz is hosting a Mobility Festival on 19 September. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover a range of mobility options and find out about current developments and future plans in public transport. The Linz Regional Light Rail will also be represented with its own information stand, providing insights into the planning, benefits and current progress of one of Upper Austria’s most significant infrastructure projects. Interested visitors can speak directly with the project managers and receive first-hand information.

Secure the remaining places now for the Family Public Transport Days on 19 and 20 September
The Family Public Transport Days are a joint initiative of the Upper Austrian Transport Association and the Upper Austrian Department for Family Affairs. On four special days in September, families can download a free Upper Austrian Leisure Ticket in conjunction with the Upper Austrian Family Card, allowing them to travel on regional and city public transport for a whole day. There are 1,500 Upper Austrian Leisure Tickets available per event day. Registration opened on 25 August and demand is high. There are currently just a few places left for 19 and 20 September.
