Additional services, new routes and targeted capacity increases will improve comfort and reliability on the journey to school on several routes in the central region of Upper Austria. The changes will come into effect when the new school year begins in September 2026 and are already reflected in the timetables valid from 11 July 2026. The funding for this is being provided by the Infrastructure Department of the Upper Austrian Provincial Government.
Together with the transport operators involved, ÖBB Postbus and sabtours, the Upper Austrian Transport Association is thus implementing targeted improvements where the need for school transport is particularly high. This benefits pupils as well as their families and schools, as Günther Steinkellner, Regional Minister for Mobility and Infrastructure, emphasises: “A reliable and safe journey to school is a key concern for many families. With the additional bus services, we are providing targeted relief on high-demand routes and improving access to key school locations in the central region. In doing so, we are investing directly in an attractive public transport service for young people in Upper Austria.”
Klaus Wimmer, Managing Director of OÖ Verkehrsverbund Gesellschaft, adds : “With the additional services and connections, we are responding to the growing demand for school transport. Together with our transport operators, we have succeeded in implementing practical and rapidly effective solutions for schoolchildren in the Eferding, Rohrbach, Wilhering and Waizenkirchen areas, thereby improving connections to schools even further. In doing so, we are enhancing the quality of public transport where it is particularly important in everyday life.”
Additional capacity between the Danube region and the Rohrbach school
A new school service will be introduced on route 204 from Goldwörth via Feldkirchen to Rohrbach-Berg. The service departs at 06:52. In addition, further return journeys from Rohrbach-Berg will be offered in the afternoon at 13:55 and 15:45. This will provide pupils from the Danube region with an expanded and needs-based service.
Better connections to the Waizenkirchen Agricultural Education Centre
The newly expanded Waizenkirchen Agricultural Education Centre will also be even better connected to the regional bus network in future. On route 204, an additional service for boarding school journeys on Mondays will run from Gerling at 07:35 via Feldkirchen, Aschach and Hartkirchen to Waizenkirchen ABZ, arriving at 08:20. For the return journey on Fridays, an additional service will depart from Waizenkirchen ABZ at 13:25.
In addition, on route 663, service 102, which leaves Eferding at 06:40, will be extended via Dachsberg to the Waizenkirchen Agricultural Training Centre. It arrives at 07:11. This significantly improves access to the school, particularly from the Eferding area.
Further additional services on high-demand routes
Additional services are also being introduced on other heavily used routes: On route 200, a new express service will run on school days from Feldkirchen/Donau at 07:08 to Linz Hauptbahnhof, arriving at 07:45. On route 670, a new morning service will be introduced between Linz Hauptbahnhof and Aschach via Eferding (departing at 08:11). On line 671, extra services will be introduced during school hours between Alkoven and Wilheringer Gymnasium. The new Alkoven Glaserstraße stop will also be served.
The changes are already reflected in the timetables valid from 11 July 2026.
