More than 22,000 passengers used the new "Mein Spetzi" city bus service in Traun in the first six weeks. That is around 5 per cent more passengers than in the same period last year. At weekends, the increase was even more significant with a plus of 9 per cent: More than 2,200 people were also persuaded to switch to the new Traun city bus on Saturdays. The results in the first few weeks after its introduction are therefore positive: the optimised and expanded public transport service is also being used outside of peak times. The task now is to anchor the Traun intersection even more firmly in the minds of the people of Traun as a central new transport hub.
Since mid-December 2025, the four lines 631, 632, 633 and 634 have been serving the Traun urban area every half hour. The integration of new areas such as (Alt-) St. Martin into the public transport network and the improved transfer options to local trains, regional buses and the tram have persuaded many Traun residents to swap the bus for other means of transport. "We are delighted with the response of the Traun population to the new city bus concept and this confirms our approach of continuously developing and improving public transport services in close dialogue with the people and in harmony with the needs of the economy and social life," says Günther Steinkellner, Provincial Councillor for Mobility and Infrastructure.
With the option of free travel until the end of January 2026, the new city bus service was easy and uncomplicated to try out. This should particularly appeal to those who otherwise use public transport infrequently or not at all. "The increased frequency at the Traun junction is an indicator for us that we were able to achieve this goal. We must now take this positive momentum from the introductory phase with us and anchor the Traun junction even more firmly in the minds of the people of Traun as a central transport hub," says Klaus Wimmer, Managing Director of OÖ Verkehrsverbund Gesellschaft.
More stops within walking distance and many new attractive routes
With the new city bus concept, three of the four lines in the city area will run to the Traun junction. From there, there are attractive transfer options to the tram and regional buses. "This opens up many new routes within Traun and beyond," points out Günther Steinkellner .
The range of bus stops has also improved: "With the new extended timetable, 93% of Traun residents now have a public bus stop within a walking distance of less than 300 metres. With the help of the OÖVV route planner app, the fastest connection is displayed at a glance and in real time and, in combination with the OÖVV ticket app, tickets can also be purchased directly online. This makes the public transport network even more accessible," says Klaus Wimmer.
New e-buses characterise the cityscape
The environmentally friendly e-buses have already left a positive "footprint" on the population and the cityscape, reports Traun Mayor Karl-Heinz Koll: "The Spetzi has quickly proven itself as a reliable and familiar companion in everyday life. The small, manoeuvrable e-buses are ideal for the narrow residential areas and make a noticeable contribution to relieving traffic congestion there. At the same time, they are efficient, environmentally friendly and significantly quieter when travelling."
