In order to protect the climate and reduce the volume of traffic, some parcel deliveries could be shifted to public transport in future. Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH and Wiener Linien are looking for people to help test the feasibility of this type of parcel delivery concept.
We are supporting the project, which will start the "Öffi-Packerl" test operation in the Innviertel regionon 31 March 2025 , and are asking KlimaTicket OÖ customers to take part in this research project. Sounds good? Then write an e-mail to support.oeffipackerl@wienerlinien.at and register for the 8-week test phase. As a small thank you, vouchers will be raffled off among all selected testers. The tests are coordinated and organised by Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH and Wiener Linien.
What is a Öffi-Packerl and what is it all about?
The number of parcels ordered is constantly increasing. This is not only a major challenge for delivery traffic, but also has a huge impact on the environment. Innovative solutions are therefore needed and this is where the Öffi-Packerl comes into play. What is behind it? Put simply, it's about transporting parcels that are on the way home or to work, for example, on public transport and getting them to their destination in an environmentally friendly way. Test persons are being sought for this.
This is how the public transport parcel principle works:
- Download the app and enter your route
The specially developed "Öffi-Packerl" app can be used to query routes such as the journey from home to work.
- Passenger & parcel with the same route are paired
If there is a parcel on the same route that would like a lift, the passenger and parcel are paired.
- Open parcel station with QR code & remove parcel
When the order is accepted, a QR code is transmitted with which you can open the specially installed parcel boxes directly at the public transport stop and remove the parcel.
- Get on public transport with your parcel & take it to your destination in an environmentally friendly way
Together with your parcel, you can now travel to work by public transport as usual and return the parcel to the designated parcel station via QR code when you arrive at your destination stop.
Where exactly are the parcel boxes?
The parcel boxes in the Innviertel region are located at Andorf railway station (Bahnhofstraße 1, 4770 Andorf), the Jahnturnhalle in Ried im Innkreis (Friedrich-Thurner-Straße 8, 4910 Ried) and the bus terminal in Schärding (Tummelplatzstraße 8, 4780 Schärding).
