The Upper Austrian Transport Association welcomes the new international bus route operated by the South Bohemian transport association IDESKA, which has been running on a trial basis since 4 July 2026, linking the Lipno region with Upper Austria. The connection between Bad Leonfelden, Vyšší Brod, Lipno nad Vltavou, Frymburk and Český Krumlov is an important step towards better, sustainable and practical everyday mobility in the border region. Co-ordinated connections in Bad Leonfelden with the OÖVV bus route 270 (Linz – Bad Leonfelden) also link the new service to the central region of Upper Austria.
With the launch of this international bus route, an attractive public transport link between Upper Austria and South Bohemia is now available at weekends and on public holidays. The new route connects tourist destinations on both sides of the border whilst also creating new opportunities for environmentally friendly leisure travel.
“Cross-border mobility is a key component of a modern public transport system in the region. The new international bus route strengthens the link between Upper Austria and South Bohemia and opens up new opportunities for both Upper Austrians and visitors from the Czech Republic to travel comfortably and in an environmentally friendly way,” said Günther Steinkellner, Provincial Councillor for Mobility and Infrastructure, expressing his delight at the initiative by the South Bohemian transport association IDESKA.
The new route complements existing regional transport services and helps to further improve accessibility in the border region. At the same time, the trial operation can provide important insights for a possible future expansion of cross-border public transport links.
“Our aim is to further develop public transport where people actually travel in their daily lives, for leisure and for tourism. This does not stop at the provincial border. The initiative by the South Bohemian Transport Association is therefore a very positive sign for us of cooperation across regional and national borders. If the trial run organised by our colleagues from the Czech Republic goes well and is well received by passengers on both sides of the border – particularly with regard to the connecting services to the central Upper Austrian region via OÖVV Line 270 – then we are in favour of expanding cross-border public transport links in the coming years, taking into account the budgetary constraints,” said Klaus Wimmer, Managing Director of the Upper Austrian Transport Association.
