From today, Monday, 8 June 2026, the Upper Austrian Pupil Ticket, Upper Austrian Apprentice Ticket and Upper Austrian Youth Ticket can be ordered for the 2026/27 school year. Online early purchasers will once again be automatically entered into the OÖVV competition this year: Apple AirPods Max 2 are up for grabs. The new school year brings adjustments to ticket prices: As a nationwide measure to consolidate the budget, the deductible for free travel for pupils and apprentices will be increased from 19.60 euros to 29.60 euros for the first time since the mid-1990s in the coming school year. This will also affect the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket (formerly the Youth Ticket Network). At 108.00 euros, the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket remains one of the cheapest annual network tickets for young people in a comparison of federal states.
From Monday, 8 June 2026, the Upper Austrian Pupil Ticket, the Upper Austrian Apprentice Ticket and the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket (formerly Youth Ticket Network) can be ordered for the coming 2026/27 school year. A new, compact explanatory video accompanies the start of ordering and shows step by step which ticket is ideal for which target groups and needs and how online ordering works. All school pupils and apprentices who are not older than 24, live in Upper Austria or attend school or complete an apprenticeship there and receive family allowance are entitled to discounted public transport tickets. The most popular ticket for young people is the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket (formerly the Youth Ticket Network). Of the 113,184 tickets sold in the current school year, more than 78,398 young people opted for the annual network ticket. A five-year comparison shows the increasing importance of the ticket: while the total number of tickets ordered by this target group has increased by 6.3 per cent over the last five years, the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket has seen significantly stronger growth among young people with an increase of 14.8 per cent.
"With the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket, young people can travel independently, flexibly and inexpensively throughout the year on all forms of public transport in Upper Austria with just one ticket. This means that Upper Austria still has one of the cheapest annual network tickets for young people in a comparison of federal states. In combination with the continuous expansion of our offer, this is an important lever for us to convince young people of the benefits of climate-friendly mobility in the long term," says Günther Steinkellner, Provincial Councillor for Mobility and Infrastructure.
Deductibles for school and apprentice tickets adjusted throughout Austria
Since the mid-1990s, the deductible for student and apprentice tickets for travelling from home to school or apprenticeship has remained unchanged at 19.60 euros. As a nationwide measure to consolidate the budget, the federal government is now increasing the deductible for free travel for pupils and apprentices to 29.60 euros for the first time in Austria in the new school year. Information on this can be found on the website of the Federal Chancellery(www.bundeskanzleramt.gv.at/).
"This measure by the federal government to adjust the deductibles for free travel for schoolchildren and apprentices naturally also affects our tickets for schoolchildren and apprentices. Local and regional public transport is a publicly funded service and is not profit-orientated. Revenues from ticket sales only cover a very small part of the total costs of public transport and the current adjustment is also well below the general cost and price development since the 1990s. Determining the deductible for free travel for pupils and apprentices is the responsibility of the federal government. As the budgetary situation in Upper Austria is still very tight, we have to pass on the increase in the excess in full to our customers," emphasises Klaus Wimmer, Managing Director of OÖ Verkehrsverbund Gesellschaft.
The price for the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket (formerly the Youth Ticket Network) will also be updated accordingly for the 2026/27 school year and will be EUR 108.00 for the coming school year after adjusting the deductible and indexation. At this price, young people have access to all public transport throughout Upper Austria for 13 months. Those who initially opt for a regular free travel pass for schoolchildren or apprentices can upgrade to the Upper Austrian Youth Ticket at any time. The surcharge for this is 83.40 euros for the 2026/2027 school year.
Ordering now possible
As usual, the Upper Austrian Transport Association is offering parents and young passengers the opportunity to order tickets around three months before the start of the new school or apprenticeship year and thus start the summer without any worries. The easiest and most uncomplicated way to order tickets is online via the OÖVV website. As many as 95 per cent of all orders are now processed online. This high online order rate is an absolute record in Austria.
